Looking For Purpose

We spend so much of our lives striving, grasping for direction, aching for clarity, searching for the “what” and “where” of our purpose. We want to make sense of what was and have certainty about what’s coming next. It’s easy to fixate on the aches of yesterday, to obsess over the what-ifs of tomorrow. And in all that reaching, we can forget the holy reality: Our first and highest calling isn’t to “do” It’s to “be”.  

Before the assignment, before the open doors, before the next step is revealed, your purpose is simply this: to abide. To love and be loved. To know and be known. To stand in His presence, wholly His. And from that posture, everything else flows.  

See, the world’s great lie about purpose is that it is born out of position. The truth? Purpose is birthed out of heart posture.  

Have you drifted? 

Somewhere along the way, did you buy into the idea that service is what completes you? That working for God is what proves you? Yes, you were created on purpose, for a purpose. Yes, there are good works prepared ahead of you (Ephesians 2:10). But before that chapter unfolds, there’s this moment and in it God offers you this invitation,  

“Draw near to Me and let Me fill you. Draw near and let Me mold you. Draw near and learn My heart so completely that when I launch you, and troubles come your way, you can stand in faith, not fear. Having been grown in the secret place with Me, you are solidified and unmovable.” 

Moses understood this. He prayed to God, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here” (Exodus 33:15). See he understood it was better to stay in the wilderness with God and remain in waiting, trials and dependance then it was to obtain the promised land but loose his proximity to the Lord.He knew the presence of God was everything.  

When you are fully immersed in His presence, it can be like standing beneath a roaring waterfall. The weight of it surrounds you, fills your senses, soaks into your bones. In that place all else pales to insignificance and you often don’t see miles ahead. And that’s okay. You aren’t meant to. In that space where heaven meets earth, you don’t need panoramic vision, you just need Him.   

Friend, you can trust His timing. 

God’s direction comes when you need it, not when you demand it. He is a good Father. He knows for us to walk in obedience we require direction, and He is faithful to bring it clearly. Isaiah 30:21 says, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’ 

But if you’re too busy straining to see the future, you might miss the gentle whisper of His voice. You might miss the murmurs of His heart calling you to just “come and be”. “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).  

Friend, if clarity hasn’t come yet, hear this: Your purpose right now is to seek Him. Press in. Abide. “Abide in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4). Stay in His Word, because it is “a lamp to your feet and a light to your path” (Psalm 119:105). Lamp, not floodlight – if all you ever see is just the next step and no further, that’s ok. In fact, it’s very likely deliberate. God gives us what we need as we walk. Each next step grows from the faithful taking of the one before it. 

Trust the process. Trust His timing. Trust His heart for you. He is faithful to lead. Faithful to confirm. Faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6).  

I hear Him whisper –

“I will make you a lighthouse, a city on a hill (Matthew 5:14). I will be your foundation and your cornerstone (Isaiah 28:16).  

But before we do- child, just come and be.  

Be with Me.  
Rest in Me.  
Time your breaths to Mine and learn what it is to walk beside Me, allowing Me to set the pace the rhythm of our movement. No purpose in rushing ahead, no wisdom in lagging behind. 
Let Me lead you.”
