Stop Kicking  

Prophetic Word – Adele Grobler – March 2025 

The Lord gave me a vision of a person that was swimming against a tide. This person was kicking and really wrestling with their arms against this current because they were moving against this current to where they thought they wanted to be. But what this person didn’t realize was this current that they were fighting was actually the Holy Spirit’s current. 

This person became quite exhausted, and no matter how much physical effort they exerted, nothing they did seemed to help them move towards their goal as this current was against them. And then I heard the Lord say, “Stop kicking.” Then I saw the person stop kicking. This person then just relaxed when the Lord said, “Relax,” and they drifted in the right direction with the current. 

They didn’t fight it. They didn’t swim against it. But they could basically just reset and energize as they were flowing in this current in the direction that the Lord wanted them to go. But they failed to recognize at first that it was the Lord redirecting them in a different direction. 

So whatever this was that this person was moving towards—whether it was the old way of the old seasons or the ways in which things used to work, whether it be for ministry, business, family, or even just in the spiritual life—the way that they had always done things and the direction they thought God was calling them to, they were trying to go in their own effort. They were swimming and kicking against it because where this other current went was so different than what they would have thought, and it looked to actually drift them further from what they originally were wanting to go towards. 

But the Lord said just trust Him and the process because wherever the Lord led this person on this current, on this pathway, that is where they were more restful, more peaceful. And even though it was a very different pathway than what they originally thought, it got them where they needed to be. 

So, if that is you—if you feel like you are really struggling to move forward, or it’s such an effort to maintain what used to be easy—take a moment and just pause and reflect. Ask yourself, “Is this really the direction the Lord wants me to go?” Even if it’s something that He said previously to do, even if it’s a direction He previously gave you, if you find that you don’t have the grace to actually move fluently in that direction, then chances are God has moved. 

God does not always keep us in the same direction or same circumstance. Sometimes you can be in a ministry move for years before He shifts it. Sometimes you can be in ministry for a week, and then He shifts it. Sometimes you can be in business for years, and He shifts it. Sometimes you can be in business for a week, and He shifts it. Sometimes you can be in a move with your family in one direction, and then He shifts it. 

You need to follow Him like the Israelites followed the ark. Whenever the ark had to set out, the Israelites would follow the ark wherever the Lord would lead them. And so it’s the same—you have to be switched onto the Holy Spirit. Do not worry even if it seems way off from what you thought because remember, God knows what is coming, and in His love, He will already put different strategies and things in place to help carry you through the season ahead. 

But if you keep swimming towards what you think—or even the old way in how you operated—you will find yourself only exhausted and wearied. When you let go and rest, you find grace and momentum in the new slipstream that the Lord wants to take you in.

Let’s pray, 

My beautiful God, Lord, I thank You so much for this word. I pray, Father, for every brother and sister who might be feeling this way. Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus that as they hear this word, they will take a moment of time to sit with You and actually ask You, “Lord, is this really what I am supposed to be doing?”

If they don’t find peace, if they don’t find momentum, if they don’t find grace in that stream they are trying to swim against, Lord, I pray that You would give them clarity and ease. Help them to know, Lord God, that even if You are moving them in a different direction, they should not mourn moving away from what they thought they wanted or what they even operated in. Help them to embrace the new with You and to find rest and peace as You move them in that direction.

In Jesus’ most holy and powerful name, Amen.
